Seasonal fluctuation of birds in open landfill, Souk Ahras (Algeria)

Landfills have the advantage of meeting energy needs birds quickly. They offer easy access to food and widely available throughout year. In this study, were counted using observation points on an open landfill in restored Souk-Ahras region (north-eastern Algeria) for one year from July 2013 April 2014. Seventeen species (17) bird belonging eleven (11) families found: Ciconidae, Corvidae, Accipitridae, Passeridae, Hirundinidae, Motacillidae, Columbidae, Ardeidae, Sturnidae, Laridae, Pelecanidae, among them sedentary species, migratory, visitors, invasive which are exploiting discharge feeding or rest. Species richness abundance site found be higher than that naturel habitat around site. Their varied according seasons.landfill support both common as: Columba palumbus, livia, Streptopelia decaoto, Ciconia ciconia, Corvus corax. addition that, rare such as Pelecanus crispus. Ecology dynamic each during annual cycle bird’s populations allow us observing all interactions reactions between individuals different birds. Souk Ahras is a resting place source birds, means it censuses urgency update migratory frequent our well monitor their state health. It also interesting follow process colonization urban city.
